ABOUT COVERAGE MATTERS
Welcome to Coverage Matters. My name is Ed Smerdon and Coverage Matters is my brainchild. After 30 years in the legal and insurance industries (you can see my career highlights on LinkedIn), I set up my own consultancy using my expertise as a qualified solicitor and former law firm partner to provide clients with a technical wordings service.

I realised from my time in insurance that there is definitely a need for this service. The financial terms of insurance deals are not the only things that matter. Clients and regulators are demanding higher standards in wordings and greater clarity in the products offered. Wordings need to match what is being said about them.

Besides that, having great wordings is a business imperative. Fluctuating markets mean they need to be reviewed frequently to ensure they are keeping pace with current standards. Even more importantly, they need to evolve with rapidly changing client needs to stay relevant. Technical wording development is often “someone else’s job”. It’s too important to the industry to shelve. So let me help.

In short, coverage matters, hence the name.
I am passionate about the insurance industry, its people and the wordings. I combine my expertise as an insurance lawyer with my more recent insurance industry experience to provide a highly tailored and relevant service, delivered on time and on budget. Don't put off those wording projects any longer. I look forward to working with you.

The book features fully updated contributions from leading legal experts around the world on what directors need to be concerned about in 2022 and beyond. Each chapter follows a set structure (updated for this edition) which includes commentary on the risks of civil, criminal and regulatory claims against directors, and addresses the availability of indemnification and D&O insurance. New features of this edition include greater scrutiny of criminal vs regulatory liability, forecasting of particular trends, and the insurability of fines and penalties in the jurisdictions covered. We are delighted to work alongside risk, compliance, operations, HR, governance and company secretarial specialists from ICSR, a consultancy firm focussed on providing insurance firms with an alternative to the traditional consultancy model. ICSR comprises a mix of full-time staff and consultants, all of whom have significant experience working ‘in-house’ for insurance businesses. Coverage Matters can work as part of that team where our expertise is called upon as part of a wider client brief. Please speak with us if you feel an introduction to ICSR would be beneficial to your business.
